Apricot: The Fruit of the Valais

Few fruits are as closely tied to the Valais as the apricot. In our Rarner Gin it brings sunshine, sweetness and velvety fruit to the distillate.

Why the Valais apricot is special

The Rhône valley is Switzerland’s largest apricot-growing region: dry, sunny, with warm days and cool nights. That rhythm concentrates the aromas — Valais apricots taste more intense than imported fruit.

For us the apricot is not an exotic extra but a neighbour: the orchards lie a few kilometres from the distillery in Raron.

Apricot in Rarner Gin

In Rarner Gin the apricot provides the fruity core around which blueberry, ginger, chili and larch wood gather. It makes the gin soft and approachable without making it sweet.

It shows most beautifully in a gin and tonic with a grapefruit wedge — or neat, lightly chilled, as a digestif.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the apricot make the gin sweet?

No — the sugar stays behind in distillation. The apricot contributes aroma and texture, not sugar.

Which Johann Gin features apricot?

In Rarner Gin — there the Valais apricot is the defining fruit botanical.

Which drink shows off the apricot?

A gin and tonic with a restrained tonic and grapefruit — or a gin sour where the fruit plays against the lemon. Recipes in our cocktail collection.
