Our Story
In 2021, we inherited a distillation unit. What began as a question — what do we do with this? — grew through a gin-making course into a passion, and finally into the founding of Salzmann Distillery in December 2024.
A Heirloom That Changed Everything
In 2021, our family inherited distillation equipment from Johann Wenger. At first, we weren't sure what to do with this special piece. For his 27th birthday, in 2023, we gave our son a gin-making course, designed for at least two people. In spring 2024, we attended the course together — to learn more about the craft of distilling and try it ourselves.
The course gave us fascinating insights into the world of distilling, the selection and processing of botanicals, and the artisanal processes behind a quality gin. What started as curiosity quickly became genuine passion. In December 2024, we founded Salzmann Distillery — and since then we have been working with dedication, creativity, and a love of experimentation to craft our own gin expressions and high-quality schnapps.
“A heirloom became a calling.”

The Road to the Distillery
The Inheritance
Our family inherits distillation equipment from Johann Wenger. A special piece — and the starting point for everything that follows.
The Gift
For our son's 27th birthday, we give him a gin-making course, designed for at least two people.
The Gin Course
We attend the course together. We discover botanicals, understand distillation — and find a genuine passion.
The Founding
Salzmann Distillery is founded. The first creations emerge: Rarner Gin, Hiemalis, Solstice — and handcrafted schnapps from the Valais.
The Range
The product range takes shape. Each spirit carries its own character — developed with care, patience, and the courage to forge our own path.
Come to Raron
We offer tastings and distillery visits by appointment throughout the year.
