View BottleThe larch defines the forests above the Rhône valley — in autumn it turns whole slopes golden. We bring its wood into the still: as the resinous, warm botanical of Rarner Gin.
Most gins get their wood notes — if any — from barrel ageing. We take a different path: larch wood goes straight into the maceration and is distilled along. That captures the pure resin and forest aroma without colouring the gin.
The larch is ideal for this: its resin smells brighter and fresher than spruce — like mountain forest after rain.
In Rarner Gin the larch wood is the grounding element: it catches the fruit of apricot and blueberry and extends the finish with resinous warmth.
Together with the juniper this creates a doubled forest aroma — the reason Rarner Gin tastes unmistakably alpine despite its fruit.

Yes — as a resinous, warm note in the finish, reminiscent of mountain forest. Subtle, but unmistakable.
From the mountain forests of the Valais — the landscape around our distillery in Raron.
No — since the wood is distilled along, only the volatile aromas remain. The gin stays crystal clear.
