The Gin for the Spritz

The spritz does not have to be orange. With Rarner Gin, dry Valais white wine and soda it turns alpine — lighter than a G&T, more elegant than the classic at the next table.

Wine meets wine base

The trick of the alpine spritz: our gin is itself distilled on Valais wine — combine it with a dry white from the same region and the aromas mesh like gears. The apricot of Rarner Gin meets the wine’s fruit; the soda opens up both.

The recipe

4 cl Rarner Gin, 6 cl dry alpine white wine, 4 cl soda water, plenty of ice in a wine glass — garnished with a pear slice and a juniper berry. Like it more bitter? Replace the wine with 2 cl vermouth and more soda; more festive? Sparkling wine instead of soda.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which wine suits the gin spritz?

A dry, fresh white wine — ideally from the Valais, echoing the gin’s wine base. Fendant works wonderfully.

Is a gin spritz lighter than a gin and tonic?

Yes — with wine and soda it sits noticeably lower in alcohol and drinks lighter. The ideal afternoon apéro.

Does the spritz work in winter?

With Hiemalis, yes: its spice notes and sparkling wine instead of soda make a festive winter spritz.
